The commercial, mining and manufacturing sectors are the cornerstones
of the Western Australian economy. Collectively they consume 340 petajoules
of energy and account for 62% of the State's annual greenhouse gas emissions.
Experience in Australia and overseas demonstrates that savings in business
energy use of between 15-25% can be achieved through sustainable energy
practices. Many opportunities for savings involve simple housekeeping
practices that cost nothing or very little to implement. Others can be
costly but should pay for themselves through reduced energy bills. The
potential for reducing energy consumption will vary for each individual
business and depends on a number of factors (both technical and non-technical).
The Sustainable Energy Development Office is committed to assisting Western
Australian businesses and has developed a range of case
studies and brochures to help your business better manage energy consumption
as well as save the environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The brochures are available under the Publications
(Work Energy Smart) section of this website and should provide the
tools needed to assess opportunities for improving energy efficiency within
your organisation.
For additional information on energy efficiency best practices in a variety
of business sectors see the energy
efficiency best practice program on the Department of Resources, Energy
and Tourism website.
