The Renewable Energy Production Subsidy is designed to assist renewable energy generators connected to the South West electricity grid, by providing a short-term subsidy during the period in which the Government's electricity reforms become effective. A phased approach has been taken.
Payments to some generators for their renewable energy production are
scheduled to continue until the end of 2009, with other generators receiving
final payments from the program in 2007 or 2008. In the 2006/07 financial
year the Renewable Energy Production Subsidy subsidised the generation
of 186 GWh of renewable energy from wind, biomass and hydro sources. |
