Installation Tips
To get the most out of your solar hot water system, ensure that:
The roof's structural strength is assessed (by the installer) to ensure that it can support the weight of the system.
The collectors are positioned facing north. Typically they are mounted flush against the roof so their angle above horizontal is around 20 to 26 degrees. Increasing this tilt angle will improve winter performance in Perth but may add to installation costs.
The solar collectors are not excessively shaded by trees or nearby buildings, particularly when the sun is low in the sky during winter.
The storage tank and solar collectors are as close together as possible to reduce the length of the connecting pipes (in gravity feed and pumped systems).
All components, including pipes, are well insulated.
The booster control is in an accessible location with an indicator light and a timer switch to optimise solar gain in cooler months.
Frost-protection is included for areas where freezing conditions are possible.
A thermostatic tempering valve is installed or included if you wish to avoid water being too hot during summer.
The system is suitable for the water quality in your area.
All plumbing and electrical work is done by a licensed contractor.
