EDUCATION AND TRAINING Schools Energy Saving Kit for Schools Western Power has produced an 'Energy Saving Kit for Schools' that provides all schools with up-to-date information to help them implement strategies to meet the 12% target by 2006/2007. ResLab Schools The Renewable Energy Systems Test Centre (ResLab), formerly known as the Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE), provides information on renewable energy for students and teachers as part of its Schools and Community Education Project. A series of semi-technical factsheets on renewable energy has been developed with funding assistance from the SEDO Grants Program (formerly known as the Alternative Energy Development Board) for secondary and tertiary students and the general public. Activities aimed at teaching students about renewable energy, energy efficiency and the greenhouse effect are also available. World of Energy Western Power's World of Energy is an educational facility located at Fremantle that has a focus on promoting an awareness and understanding of a variety of energy and environmental issues. The centre offers a range of hands-on, curriculum-based educational programs for primary and secondary students. CSIRO Education CSIRO operates a range of science education projects which aim to alert school students, their families and teachers to the contribution of scientific research to our community, encourage students to participate in scientific activities and encourage students to take up careers in science. TravelSmart to School TravelSmart to School is an integrated education program run by the Department of Transport to raise awareness about the impacts of car use and to encourage the use of travel alternatives. The program promotes walking, cycling, public transport and carpooling for school trips. TAFE Certificate IV of Technology (Renewable Energy) - Central College of Tafe This course prepares students for employment in the renewable energy industry by providing training in the design skills and installation techniques needed for remote area power supply systems. The course includes many supporting subjects, a substantial amount of computer based training and some business management skills classes. Together with in-house training, many projects are carried out externally in conjunction with industry. Universities Energy Studies - Murdoch University Murdoch University offers qualifications in the technical, economic and policy aspects of renewable energy. Other Short Courses in Renewable Energy The Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (RISE), formerly known as the Australian Cooperative Centre for Renewable Energy, conducts short courses for professionals involved in the renewable energy industry, including the technical, financial and policy areas. Postgraduate Program in Cleaner Production Cleaner Production is about making more efficient use of the materials and energy employed through business operations while minimising the generation of wastes and emissions.
