EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Schools

Energy Saving Kit for Schools
Western Power has produced an 'Energy Saving Kit for Schools' that provides all schools with up-to-date information to help them implement strategies to meet the 12% target by 2006/2007.

ResLab Schools
The Renewable Energy Systems Test Centre (ResLab), formerly known as the Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE), provides information on renewable energy for students and teachers as part of its Schools and Community Education Project. A series of semi-technical factsheets on renewable energy has been developed with funding assistance from the SEDO Grants Program (formerly known as the Alternative Energy Development Board) for secondary and tertiary students and the general public. Activities aimed at teaching students about renewable energy, energy efficiency and the greenhouse effect are also available.

World of Energy
Western Power's World of Energy is an educational facility located at Fremantle that has a focus on promoting an awareness and understanding of a variety of energy and environmental issues. The centre offers a range of hands-on, curriculum-based educational programs for primary and secondary students.

CSIRO Education
CSIRO operates a range of science education projects which aim to alert school students, their families and teachers to the contribution of scientific research to our community, encourage students to participate in scientific activities and encourage students to take up careers in science.

TravelSmart to School
TravelSmart to School is an integrated education program run by the Department of Transport to raise awareness about the impacts of car use and to encourage the use of travel alternatives. The program promotes walking, cycling, public transport and carpooling for school trips.

TAFE

Certificate IV of Technology (Renewable Energy) - Central College of Tafe
This course prepares students for employment in the renewable energy industry by providing training in the design skills and installation techniques needed for remote area power supply systems. The course includes many supporting subjects, a substantial amount of computer based training and some business management skills classes. Together with in-house training, many projects are carried out externally in conjunction with industry.

Universities

Energy Studies - Murdoch University
Murdoch University offers qualifications in the technical, economic and policy aspects of renewable energy. Some programs are available entirely via the internet enabling part-time or full-time study without needing to attend a campus. Choose from:
Bachelor of Science (Energy Studies)
Bachelor of Renewable Energy Engineering (on-campus only)
Postgraduate Certificate (Energy Studies)
Postgraduate Diploma (Energy Studies or Energy & Environment)
Master of Science (Renewable Energy)

Engineering - Curtin University
Curtin University offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering including:
. Master of Engineering Science (Renewable Energy Engineering) - this program is offered by the Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies Australia at Curtin University. It is designed to provide engineers and scientists with specific training in advanced areas of renewable energy technologies and engineering applications. The emphasis is on the design, analysis, simulation, and implementation of energy systems with special attention to renewable energy systems.

Other

Short Courses in Renewable Energy
The Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (RISE), formerly known as the Australian Cooperative Centre for Renewable Energy, conducts short courses for professionals involved in the renewable energy industry, including the technical, financial and policy areas.

Postgraduate Program in Cleaner Production
Cleaner Production is about making more efficient use of the materials and energy employed through business operations while minimising the generation of wastes and emissions. The Centre of Excellence in Cleaner Production, based at Curtin University, provides education in cleaner production and related fields to businesses, individuals and organisations.
